Female infanticide is a social curse that has gripped several developing countries of the world like India, Pakistan, China, and South Korea for the past many decades. Though universally a male child is preferred over a female child in almost all the developed as well as developing societies of the world, this preference has led to an anathema of the girl child in some religions and countries. Female infanticide or sex selective abortion is the most gruesome reality of this gender bias. “The better half” is a story about an unknown unborn girl in such a society who is asserting her right to live. She is defying the norm that a woman is only the better half of a man, and proclaiming that she is first the better half of humanity.
